STEM - A - Fair : Setting up projects

Points to be noted by the STEM a-fair participants :

  • Children to bring their own electric extension boards and other material. A free standing table (2 feet x 4 feet) will be provided.

  • No charts are to be stuck on walls. Free standing 3 panel charts can be made that can stand on the table behind the project. Charts can be placed flat on the table or hung on the table in front (over the edge).

  • A table cloth is compulsory. Without it, the group will not be allowed to use the table. You must get your own tablecloth, safety pins, sketch pens or other stationery that you need.

  • The groups which require electricity have to bring their own extension boards. We will not be able to help you in case of power failure. You may get your own DC power supply such as batteries, etc.

  • The groups requiring water should get a bucket and mug if necessary. Only water will be provided by the school. Remember it would NOT be a running water supply through taps/ pipes.

  • Time of 2 minutes to each group for presentation to judges. Questions will follow.

  • Do make sure the WHOLE group is present as per the given reporting time. Individual members trickling in after the reporting time will NOT be allowed. For late comers, marks will be deducted from the group scores. Parents can help the children set up their projects till 8.30 am. After that, the judges round will begin.

  • Carry some light snacks and drinking water in case you feel hungry/ thirsty. Space will be provided for students to eat (one student at a time from the group can quickly have a snack and come back). However, make sure you eat in the designated area and not in the exhibit space. Also make sure you keep your school clean. Spread a newspaper under your tiffin when eating so as to keep the area clean.

Setting up and presenting the project :

  • The group leader will be given an entry card with the table number. The leader has to convey the table number to every member of the group. Printed table numbers would be kept on the tables where children are supposed to display their project. They can go to that table, spread the table cloth and start arranging their project. The printed table number should be stapled or pinned to the table cloth.

  • Take care of your belongings, school cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss of equipment.

  • Students will have to attach the charts to the table cloth, or make three – fold standing charts to set up on the table. Alternatively, students can also paste the charts on the table.

  • When you are presenting your project to the viewers/ judges, make sure everyone from the group speaks. If something doesn’t work on the day of the project, in spite of all the efforts you have put in, do not worry, talk about the theory behind the model and explain why you think it failed. Make sure there are at least two people near the table all the time to explain your project to the visitors.

  • Your project will be judged by more than one judge during the judges’ round.

  • Once the judges’ round is over, we encourage our participants to also take turns and visit the other projects. There is so much that you can learn (and maybe also get inspired!) from your classmates, juniors and seniors. You can have 1 - 2 team members man your table, while the remaining team members go around the STEM - a - Fair. Once you’re back to the table, your team members can have their turn.

  • You can take turns to eat food, drink water, toilet trips and visiting other projects.

  • When you leave the venue, at the end of the exhibition, make sure you are leaving it as clean as it was before. 

  • To make the STEM - a - fair a success, we have to make sure that we follow all the rules and timings.

  • If any of the above conditions are not satisfied, the group will be disqualified. (Even though this sounds harsh, we firmly believe it is very important for children to learn the importance of time and rules.)

  • Please make sure that children come on time, and follow the rules.
